Merry Christmas to ME!

I love the holidays. When I snuggle in bed with the HOT guy of my choice. Several HOT guys as a matter of fact. I gather all my favorite heroes. We spend quality time together with coffee, wine, the sent of a fresh cut Christmas tree, and snow softly falling outside.

The heroes fight for a chance to spend the holidays with me. But only the best of the best get that honor. Who's fighting over me this year?

Since You Asked:

Arik from Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione
Charmin Mickey O'Connor From Scandalous Desires By Elizabeth Hoyt

Gavin from Changing the Game by Jaci Burton
Billy Chase from Lead Me On by Victoria Dahl
Who's spending Christmas in your bed?

Review: Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt

It has been years since I fell in love with a hero from a historical romance. But Charmin Mickey O'Connor stole my heart and melted my panties.  Elizabeth Hoyt knows how to romance you. The book reads like long slow foreplay building up to an orgasm that is "as violent as it is pleasurable."

Mickey O'Connor earns his charming nickname. This man makes eating an artichoke sexy. I know that sounds impossible but when the Irish burr brushes over your skin as he describes in a low voice how you remove the outer layers to reveal the treasure inside, I had to have a cigarette. And this is at the beginning of the book when Silence doesn't even like him yet. I don't know how at that moment she didn't straddle him at the dinner table. She's a stronger woman than me.

Mickey breaks your heart with stories of his childhood growing up in St. Giles. I teared up several times for the beautiful young boy he was and the events that made him the pirate he became. As you get to know Mickey you understand and forgive him his many sins. I cheered and begged and cried for him to become the man Silence knew he could be.

The passion builds slow and hot, and in the moment for crisis when Mickey demands "is it enough for you?" I was screaming "YES YES OH HELL YES!" But it wasn't enough for Silence and the book continues and Mickey is asked to make the ultimate sacrifice: his life or hers.

There are side characters that you fall in love with like Bert and Harry and Finola and Lad. Silence not only wins the affection of the notorious river pirate but that of his men.

My only criticism is that I don't like who disposed of the Vicar of White Chapel. I just felt the person he had wronged the most in this world was denied the opportunity for their vengeance.

But in every other way this book tender, sweet, and sexy.

Man Candy Monday Pirate Edition

Man Candy Monday is inspired by Scandalous Desires (Maiden Lane) by Elizabeth Hoyt. The hero of this book is the river pirate Charmin Mickey O'Connor. Growing up in Eastern NC I was weaned on the legend of Blackbeard. Pirates have always been romantic heroes for me.

Did you know James Purefoy played Blackbeard?

He definitely has the look of a pirate.

Then there are the obvious sexy pirates.

But none of these are Charmin Mickey. Then I saw this.

I don't know who he is but yep he's my sexy river pirate with an Irish accent.
Set sail today with a sexy pirate.

Wrangled and Tangled by Lorelei James

I have been wanting to try Lorelei James for a while. She is an author who lives in my local area, and she writes smokin'hot cowboy erotica. I have a tumultuous relationship with erotica. Sometimes it crosses the line from an erotic story to pornography, so I am pretty reluctant to try it out. However, I have heard great things about her. The back of Wrangled and Tangled has a blurb from Fiction Vixen that says "Smokin' -hot cowboys [and] lots of Western charm." So I had to read it.

I loved that this book actually had a love story or actually 2. There were plenty of hot times between the sheets but we actually got to know the players involved before they jumped in bed. I was about 1/3 of the way through before we hit the first sex scene. The heroine's were eased into the hero's needs for more than vanilla sex, but also became empowered and took the reigns themselves. Both partners had their turns at being in control. This gave the relationships more believability to me. When the hero is the totally dominate force and the heroine is continually submissive, the relationship gets as boring as when it's all missionary. I LOVE that the girls own their power to bring these macho male cowboys to their knees and use it shamelessly.

There were some issues with this book. The words neckerchief and smooch were used entirely too many times and every time I read them it killed the mood for me. At no time have I ever wanted a "smooch" on the forehead after a bone melting orgasm. I loved that she keeps it a really true to form Western with the words and lifestyle. I live in the same area and I know the ways. When I find that perfect hard body cowboy just across the border in Wyoming part of the fantasy is that he will not smooch me or use the term neckerchief.

This book also contains 2 stories happening simultaneously. The 2 stories happened at the same time and basically the same place but didn't really over lap at all. Jumping relationships and trying to understand 4 people was just a little much for me. The book would have read better if it had been 2 novellas in the same book rather that 2 stories that were separate but equal.

This is the 3rd book in the Blacktop Cowboys Series and I am on my way to The Book Depository to order the first 2 books. I have also heard around the blogasphere that her Rough Rider's Series is even better so I'm sure a few of those will make the list as well.

Adventures of Tori the Were-Penguin

Over at the That's What I'm Talking About blog the question of what shifter would you be was asked. Tori wants to be a were-penguin. And what could a were-penguin need but a were-koala sidekick. Tori suggested someone write a story about the were-penguin and I couldn't resist.

Meet Tori - Diva extraordinaire, party girl, and all around kick ass warrior.
This is Tori's partner Hal. He is all alpha male shifter, but she can put him in his place. There is great sexual tension between the 2 of them.
One day while out on patrol, they run into an evil dragon shifter
He is the biggest most evil shifter they have ever encountered.

I have never faced such a scary demon dragon before. We better shift.

Now that we are were-penguin and were-koala we can kick dragon butt. But wait what if we die without ever having sex? We better take care of that first.
Now fueled by adrenaline and sex they face the dragon. Tori were-penguin uses her lethal belly slide to knock him off his feet, while Hal were-koala kicks his ass.

And because it's Chirstmas HARK! Unto them a child is born
Who happens to be a

a WERE-HAMPSTER!

Catching Up Over Coffee

It Tuesday.  Let's grab a cup of coffee, and catch up.

Busy busy busy weekend. I went to the Festival of Trees and Toured a Victorian Home lit up for Christmas. That fit right in with my current read, To Wed a Wild Lord by Sabrina Jefferies. This is the fourth book in her Hellions of Halstead Hall series. The final book, A Lady Never Surrenders releases January 24.

Coming up this week, I'll be re-reading Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward. I will be reading and reviewing the entire BDB series in anticipation of Lover Reborn releasing in March.

Hanging with Bells! has a post of all the new releases out this week. There isn't anything on the list that I'm dying for except maybe The Help on DVD. What you are reading/watching/listening to
this week?

Smexy Books and Fiction Vixen are teaming up to give away a KindleFire this week. They are playing the Guess Who? game. You can enter at both sights. 2 chances to win per day.

That's where I am this week, what is going on with you?

Man Candy Monday Immortal Rider

I am having trouble with Man Candy Monday. My head is filled with Aric from Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione. I have scoured the internet, trying to find a man that can pull off Aric.

I mean seriously, what human can escape HELL, stand up to the Horseman known as War, and live to fight another day?

Not only that, but this mere human has to be a MAN you would be willing to risk eternity with SATAN for just one kiss.

Can any such human exist?

I just couldn't come up with any ideas?

Immortal Rider by Larrisa Ione

All I can say dear friends is hang on for the ride. Reading this book is sort of like going through the apocalypse. This book is a "metric fucking ton of trouble." Yep that's a direct quote from the book, and I've spent all day trying to use it in a sentence. It's my new go to line. Anyway, Larrisa Ione your mind truly scares me. Just when I thought it was over there was nothing else you could do to make cry, scream, or have a hot flash you zinged another at me.

At this point I should give a synopsis of the book and tell you a little about the plot. I dare not go there. The description on the back can not begin to cover the emotional roller coaster ride that is this book. Just when I knew HELL was breaking loose and blood was going to spill she had me laughing. Seriously, what late night bender was she on when she decided to have a half demon/half vampire refer to the mighty FOUR HORSEMEN of the APOCALYPSE, who are both fear and revered, with "Yo, Horsepeople" I had to put the book down to laugh. There is a lot of playful and witty banter that will only come across if you are invested in these series. Honestly if you are not 6 books into her series you have a lot of catching up to do. So start reading and when you get here you will love the characters as much as I do.

I think humor was the appeal of the book. Although there was a lot of violence and battle and torture that had me pacing the floor, the humor was a shining light that eased the horror. My best friend is also reading this book and she hasn't finished it yet, so I blew up her facebook mail with all the one liners. She can't read it quite as fast because she has to "work" or something. Who does that when there is a book this funny, sexy, sweet, and hard core to read?

She made some killer pop culture references such as: Lady GaGa's meat dress, 2 5000 year old virgins,  a nod to The Lord of the Rings, My Little Pony and even an Alice's restaurant reference. I'm not too proud to say when Thanatos was wanting to kill, kill, kill, I started jumping up and down yelling kill kill. And we were both jumping up and down yelling kill, kill, kill. But I digress. Also someone got a "stick-up-the-butt-ectomy". How can you not read it just for that? Although she never found a place for "asshat" I have hopes for her future books.

PS I hope you don't read this and think I'm "ceiling-licking, rabies-frothing, dish-ran-away-with-the-spoon in-fucking-sane." She doesn't promise that until the next book.

Welcome to My Nightmare....

What if you could only buy 2 books in the next 6 months? Of all the great wonderful MUST HAVE books currently out or coming out in the next 6 months your budget forces you to your absolute must reads. This is the hell I have found myself in lately. Granted, there are ways that I will be able to read a lot of the books coming out. Thank God for the library and book exchanging with friends. But to OWN, to be part of my collection to revisit again and again, to grab on release day and not surface again until it's finished. Well I've made my decision.

My 2 Absolute MUST HAVE Books from November - April

First up is Immortal Rider by Larrisa Ione.

This is book 2 in the Lords of Deliverance series. I will being rereading Eternal Rider this week before I start this one which releases today. Larrisa Ione is definetly my must have author. But I would suggest you start with Pleasure Unbound, the first book in her Demonica series. Both these series take place in the same world. Arik makes his first appearance in the Demonica series. And of course the events of Sin Undone sets off the Apocalypse.

My last book is Lover Reborn by J.R. Ward

Oh Torh! What can I say. I am so emotionally invested in this series. I will be reading this series between now and the March 27, 2012 release date. J.R. Ward posts snippets on Facebook and it's nothing short of torture. You have to read this series from the beginning. We watch our characters grow through the series. Check out J.R. Ward's website for information on her other books.

If you could only buy 2 books in the next 6 months, what are your MUST HAVES?

Man Candy Monday: The Duke of Midnight

I'm reading One Dance with a Duke by Tessa Dare. So Man Candy Monday is dedicated to the sexy dashing Duke of Midnight.

He makes his grand entrance in a crowded ball room at precisely the stroke of midnight. He dances 1 set that always ends in the waltz. He chooses a different available lady each night. At the end of the set, he escorts the lady to supper and disappears.

And this is the results of my midnight dance.....

 Enjoy Monday!

When You Dare by Lori Foster

When You Dare by Lori Foster is the first book in her Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series. We meet Dare who is sent on a mission to save partner and best friend Trace's sister from human traffickers. That's when he finds Molly beaten, drugged, and unconscious. What else could he do but bring her back with him? What started out as a complication to his mission turns into so much more.

I love that both Dare and Molly spend a lot of time questioning their attraction and feelings for each other. It gave a sense of reality to the situation. After everything she had been through she wondered if Dare only felt a sense of responsibility for her. Dare wondered if she would leave and return to her life after they found out who was behind her kidnapping. It was nice to see the Alpha male Dare actually have insecurities where a woman was concerned.

We get to know Molly pretty well in this book. We learn about her career, her family, her thoughts and feelings. Dare is very shady about his past. I think there is a brief mention that he was once military, and I'm not exactly sure what his job is. All we know is that he operates inside the law when possible.  The only evolution that Dare went through was from his feelings at the beginning of the book to his feelings at the end. I felt he wasn't a very well rounded character even though he was a smokin hot hero.

And other thing that bothered me was how Molly naturally fit into the lives of Dare and his personal assistant Chris. For 2 immensely private people, Molly coming into their life and home was not a problem for either of them. She was just accepted. I would have liked to see a little more conflict there especially from Chris.

Overall this was a good read: strong heroine, smokin hot hero, and suspense. I'm looking forward to reading Trace's book which is next, and was surprised that this story didn't give us even a peek into what to expect from him.
